Why I Need Heart Surgery

I'm only 31, I got diagnosed with a heart condition at 24, it's not that common for a young adult to require heart surgery, so I'm sure some of you may be thinking....'why do you need heart surgery?'  Let's start from the beginning.... When my mum was pregnant with my me and my identical twin Louise the doctors informed her that she had Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (see the link at the end of the blog for more information). With treatment there is only a 50-65% chance that both twins will survive. However in 1993 this treatment wasn't provided to my mother, without treatment the odds weren't looking too good. My mum had an emergency c-section at 7 months, miraculously both Louise and I were alive, however it took a number of months before we were both healthy.  Fast forward 24 years, I'm on my way to work and when I arrive at work I notice my pulse in my neck feels really fast. I called my GP and they asked me to come in and see them. When I ar...

What I learnt from attending a marriage course

Image
Andy and I took part in a 7 session course on Christian marriage from October to February and we learnt so much. Today I want to share with you my top takeaways from the course and why I believe you should partake in this course if you are married. Session 1 - Strengthening Connection In this session it covered the importance of staying connected through the different stages of marriage, plus the importance of date nights and continuing to get to know one another throughout your marriage. This session was really helpful for Andy and I, as you know if you're a regular reader we've been through a lot in our marriage already, however unlike the other couples on the course, we've not had years to get to know each other and grow, so we're prepared for those hard seasons. This session challenged me personally to keep getting to know my husband through every season. Whether that's through date nights, through asking questions or taking an interest in his interests. Marria...

My minimalist lifestyle

Image
I'm not a big fan of the word 'minimalist', because I often feel like people try and prove they can live a minimalist lifestyle simply to follow a trend. I personally have never been someone who has cared about material things. I'm not into fancy decoration, clothing, cars, accessories, technology etc, all I really care about is simplicity. I wouldn't say I have chosen to like simple things, it's always been who I am. I love the verses in Matthew that talk about not storing up earthy possessions as it's a reminder of what really matters in life.  Matthew 6: 19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.   But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.   For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. I want to share some of the ways I live a more simple lifestyle, or as people say n...
