My mum was healed from cancer

Many of us are living with illness, whether it's an ongoing diagnosis, a mental health illness, chronic fatigue etc and it can be debilitating and can also lead to a lot of anxiety. As a Christian I believe that God can heal our bodies from illness, it doesn't happen to everyone, but it is something that is possible. Many of us won't know what to think about healing, but I hope today's blog helps you trust that there is still hope for healing.

In 2011 my mum Bev received a very shocking and worrying diagnosis. She had been experiencing heavy bleeding so she knew something wasn't quite right, this led to her having a routine examination. Following the examination she went to see her GP who informed her she had endometrial cancer, the lining of the womb was covered in cancerous cysts. Her GP informed her she would need to be fast tracked for a hysterectomy and that this would happen in the next two weeks. My mum and dad were shocked and devastated, she didn't expect it to be cancer, it came as a complete shock. My parents left the GP clinic and were sat in the car, they were crying and in a state of shock, fearful it could be an illness that ended her life prematurely.

At the time of the diagnosis my parents had been Christians for almost 30 years. They knew the importance of praying and asking God to bring them peace during this time, they started to pray sat in the car park of the GP clinic and immediately were filled with peace. My parents decided to not tell me and my two sisters, as they didn't want to frighten us and wanted to know what the next steps were before sharing the sad news. The first amazing thing that God did was fill my parents with that peace, despite the worry's of telling us girls and the worry of what the next steps would be, God brought them peace.

The following day after the GP appointment my mum went into work, at the time she worked for a Christian organisation. She let her colleagues know the diagnosis as she knew she would need time off work. My mum went into a meeting room with two of her colleagues and they started praying for healing. My mum said she experienced a strange sensation, she described it as drumming sensation in her lower back, she turned around to see if there was a radiator making the vibrations, there was nothing behind her. From that very moment the bleeding completely stopped, she had been experiencing heavy bleeding for one month and after one time of prayer the bleeding immediately stopped.

A few days went by and my mum went to the hospital for another scan, my mum didn't know what to expect, she was holding my dads hand and they were praying. All of a sudden she heard the gynecologist say 'it's clear', my mum had her eyes closed, but she then opened them and looked at the screen and saw that her womb was completely clear, no cancerous cysts, nothing of concern. My mum felt elated and couldn't quite fathom what had happened, this was her first healing. My mum shared with the gynecologist that she was a Christian and had been praying for healing, the gynecologists response was 'whatever you've done, it's worked'. Since that healing my mum hasn't experienced any issues with her womb, no cancer has ever been her body since that moment in the meeting room.

My mum has said since her healing it has changed the way she views healing, as Christians we know it's a possibility, but until it happens to you or someone you know it is hard to fully understand. This experience impacted my mum's life and her faith massively. I remember being sat on the sofa and my mum telling me she had cancer but was healed, I was 18 at the time. If you are experiencing a health diagnosis please don't stop praying for that healing, it is something I need to keep doing myself. I hope this story of healing has helped you today. I want to thank my mum for sharing her story, I'm praying one day this story of healing will be my story too.
