Our year of travel so far

Trying to get travel insurance in 2024 when you're awaiting heart surgery is impossible! I contacted multiple different places and no one would insure me! So we decided to explore the UK instead.

Here is a timeline of our 2024 travels, and there's still more trips to come!

FEBRUARY - Harry Potter Warner Bros Studies in Watford

This was my 30th Birthday present and it was INCREDIBLE! 






MARCH - a long weekend in Norwich

Our favourite thing we did in Norwich: We visited the Cathedral every day, we felt such a sense of peace and calm walking around the Cathedral grounds.
Where we stayed: Premier Inn Hotel
Our favourite restaurant: Shiki (Japanese cuisine) 





APRIL - North Berwick, Scotland

Our favourite thing we did in North Berwick: We went on beach walks every day, it was so beautiful
Where we stayed: A beautiful apartment on the beach front
Our favourite restaurant: We were self catered, but our favourite thing we ate was a sausage roll from Bostock Bakery 




MAY - Swindon & Stonehenge

This was a visit to see Andy's family in Swindon, we joined Andy's parents on a trip to see Stonehenge, it was very busy but we loved the history.




JUNE - Shopshire Johnson Holiday

Our favourite thing we did in Shropshire: Visited Blists Hill Victorian Town
Where we stayed: In a huge barn conversation with Andy's family
Our favourite restaurant: We were self catered, but the fish and chips at Blists Hill were very tasty





JULY - East Coast

Our favourite thing we did in the East Coast: Visited Robin Hoods Bay for Andy's birthday
Where we stayed: We stayed in Scarborough in an Air BnB
Our favourite restaurant: Lookout on the Pier in Scarborough had delicious sea food




AUGUST - Durham

Our favourite thing we did in Durham: The riverside walks
Where we stayed: In an Air BnB 10 minutes drive outside of Durham City Centre
Our favourite restaurant: Coarse, we enjoyed a 5 course meal for my birthday






SEPTEMBER - Oxford & London

Our favourite thing we did in Oxford & London: Our walks in the parks and seeing Peter Kay at the O2
Where we stayed: with Andy's parents in Swindon
Our favourite restaurants: Mowgli's in Oxford (this is an Indian street food chain)

 I'm only 31, I got diagnosed with a heart condition at 24, it's not that common for a young adult to require heart surgery, so I'm sure some of you may be thinking....'why do you need heart surgery?'  Let's start from the beginning.... When my mum was pregnant with my me and my identical twin Louise the doctors informed her that she had Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (see the link at the end of the blog for more information). What I wish I would have known before getting married

  Andy and I got married on the 21st January 2023. It was a wonderful day, finally months of stress had been worth it, we were married!  Enter marriage, or should I say enter months of wondering 'is this what married life is like?'. Do not get me wrong, I love being married to Andy, the first year had some incredible moments and I was so thankful to have him in my life, as my husband. But what shocked me, was how much preparation I thought I had done, to only realise I had overlooked so many important things! So here are four things I wish I would have known before saying 'I do': 1. Our Walking Business

One of my favourite things to do is go for a long walk with my husband or with a friend and have a deep meaningful chat. I think there's something about walking that makes people open up and be vulnerable.  Back when my husband and I were dating (some time in 2021) my business minded husband Andy came up with the idea of starting a walking business. Andy did a business degree, so is always coming up with business ideas and somehow he's got me into it as well!  We decided to connect with an existing walking company called Walx, which have over 35,000 members across the country. Walx is an organisation that trains people up to lead their own walks in their local area and run their own business, with their own members. They deal with the booking systems and equip us to lead what I think is a pretty wonderful business. At the moment Andy and I are in training with the hope of launching our walking business in 2025.
